At the far end of the South Aisle, we have now reached the shrine of the Sacred Heart. This statue of Jesus speaks to us of the great love of God, revealed in Jesus. He invites us to come to him for comfort and support: “Come to me, all you who labour and overburdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). The Church, the House of God is always a place of refuge and sanctuary, and a place where those in need or distress can find comfort and God’s help. Jesus never turns away those in real need, and there is help for everyone.
