Organ 21

The wind is brought from the blower to the bellows where the pressure is stabilised, and then to the soundboards, which contain the mechanism to allow or prevent the wind passing up to the pipes, which rest on the soundboards. The restoration of that mechanism is what has being going on over the past months in Richard Young’s workshop.

Already in place the frame has been erected, and the swell soundboard is in place. The Great soundboard is suspended on its way up.

All this, as well as being complicated, is also very heavy! The process of lifting this heavy but delicate load was carried out very carefully on Tuesday morning, 12th March.
