Tour of the Church (Part 6)
Just beyond the confessionals, we come to the twelfth station, at which we recall the moment of the death of Jesus on Good Friday. Above this carving is a crucifix which has a special significance which takes us back to the story of the crucifix related in the history of the church.
This crucifix was found among the demolition rubble of the Notre Dame convent (St Joseph’s chapel, as recorded in the history), and was restored and placed here in St Gregory’s Church.
We are reminded of the significant part that the Notre Dame School and convent played in the life of Northampton; many girls, not just within the Catholic community, have good cause to be grateful to the sisters and give thanks to God for them.
