The statue of St Thomas was a gift from the community from Kerala that has made a home in Northampton and a valuable contribution to this parish and the town. In 2003 Northampton General Hospital recruited a large number of nurses from Kerala, and found accommodation for them, mainly in Abington. Many of them were Catholic and found a welcome at St Gregory’s. There is a Mass in Malayalam once a month at St Gregory’s, and the Cathedral has a priest on the staff from Kerala. Currently, there is one of the Northampton community from Kerala in training for the Priesthood.
