Organ 11

On Monday 22nd September the organ case was erected in the hall so that it would be easier to see what needs to be done.

The plan was to remove the diagonal panels and replace the lower of them with plain wood; possibly by turning the panels round so that the plain back is visible. The small section at the bottom of the right end has already been sanded.

The fretwork at the top of the openings for pipes will be replaced, perhaps with round spandrels.

The hope is to be able to install the case in St Gregory’s in a manner that will suit the building, and take account of the fact that the case will be installed well above eye-level, whereas in its previous home it was at ground level.

In the end it was not possible to polish the wood sufficiently well to create the effect for which we hoped, and the case was painted by Jenny Duffy.
